Drugs & Narcotics Detection
The currency of terrorists world-wide is the narcotics trade. In the Middle East it tends to be opium and heroin; in Latin America it is cocaine and marijuana; in Northern Ireland it is often ecstasy, in East Asia it most often is hashish. Worldwide, it is estimated that over 80% of the revenue that fuels terrorist activities comes from the illegal global drug trade. To detect and track terrorism is to detect and track the trail of drugs.
In the same way that SpectraFluidics’ technology is able to detect trace levels of explosives, it is also able to detect trace levels of illicit drugs and narcotics. Traditionally, one of the most difficult substances to detect in air is cocaine because of its very low vapor pressure. We have successfully detected cocaine at levels approaching parts per trillion. We are now in the process of confirming our ability to detect other drugs mentioned above; all of these are expected to be much easier for us to detect than cocaine.
