Overview
SpectraFluidics' core technology is the unique combination of Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS).free-surface microfluidics and This technology is incorporated in consumable microfluidic chips that provide extremely high sensitivity and selectivity for gas-phase chemical detection, such as explosives and narcotics vapors. Explosives vapors can be detected sub parts per billion (ppb) in the presence of background contaminants that are six or more orders of magnitude higher in concentration.
SpectraFluidics’ core technology is a unique combination of Free-Surface microFluidics (FSF) and Surfaced-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS). This provides up to five orders of magnitude in selectivity, up to six orders of magnitude in concentration, and six to ten orders of magnitude of Raman signal amplification. The results spectral information is analyzed by chemometric analysis to obtain a high degree of molecular specificity.
The microfluidic channels are designed with a free surface that is exposed to the surrounding atmosphere. This provides an extremely high surface to volume ration that allows for selective absorption of certain airborne molecules (denoted by red spheres), without dilution into the bulk fluid. The selectivity between explosive molecules and background contaminants can be five orders in magnitude. This allows for the measurement of low concentration explosive molecules in the presence high concentrations of background molecules without contamination of the sensor.
